Frequently Asked Questions

Treats Canine Massage & Remedial Therapy

We put canine's and treats first.

Do you treat large and small breeds?

Yes I do. I have extensive experience handling dogs of all sizes and breeds so I'm happy to treat all canines as long as they aren't going to put me in danger.

If your dog is aggressive to either humans or other dogs then I will require you to muzzle your dog to enable me to be able to provide an adequate treatment.

How long is an appointment?

An initial consultation will take longer because I need to complete a full assessment of your dog to establish its current and past health history, complete a full body assessment, and discuss your goals.

For this reason initial consultations are usually 1 hour appointments. This can include a massage treatment, bodywork techniques & laser and potentially a Bach Flower remedy if appropriate for the treatment plan for your dog.

Is the assessment or treatment going to be painful for my dog?

Every patient is different and at a different stage of recovery, injury, age and breed. Therefore, I may come across pain spots or trigger points as I assess your dog and treat it.

However, because I have had extensive training I always start off gently and each treatment is customised to what the dog tells me on that day. I'm always looking for signs of both enjoyment and discomfort so that I can adjust the treatment accordingly.

Treats Canine Massage focus is always to do everything possible to provide a safe and effective treatment and the reduction of pain and inflammation in your canine best friend.

How many treatments until I see a result?

This is a difficult one to answer as it depends on so many different factors but generally speaking you'll notice a difference within 1-3 treatments. However, this really does depend on the dogs age, breed, and the condition(s) we are dealing with.

Do I need a vet referral?

Yes, I work as part of your dogs health care team and prefer to work closely with vets to ensure the best outcomes for your pet.

Even if your dog seems healthy and you are wanting treatment for relaxation, because dogs can't talk to us, it's important to get a vet referral to ensure there are no unknown underlying conditions.

I can help you with the vet referral process if you aren't sure how to go about getting one.

My dog has a thick double coat, can you still treat him/her?

Yes, absolutely. I am experienced in treating all breeds with long and short hair and all sizes.

Can you come to my home to treat my dog?

Yes, I offer an in-home service for an additional traveling fee (see my pricing page for details). I've found that dogs are more relaxed in their own familiar environment and that always makes for a better treatment experience for both your dog and me as a therapist.

Do you treat cats too?

Yes, I love our feline friends and am happy to provide treatment for cats too. However, please be aware that cats are more difficult to treat due to their lack of focus and patience in general.

What should I bring to my dogs session?

Bring with you whatever you feel is going to make your dog feel more comfortable. Maybe their favourite toy or blanket. Any special treats they love.

You can also bring other fur or non-fur family members but only if they are going to have a positive effect on helping your dog to relax. Otherwise, leave them at home.

How should I set up my home for an at home session?

Similar to treatments in my clinic I recommend having (where possible) a space your pet enjoys being in. With as few distractions as possible.

Don't bother cleaning up as I'm sure by the end of the treatment there will be plenty of hair to clean up afterwards.

And I may ask you to turn off anything noisy such as a tv or music and any small people to go in another room to reduce the distractions so that all focus can be on your pet that needs the care.

What form of payments do you accept?

I can accept all cards through my online Stripe platform here on the website and in person as well as cash payments. If you'd like to purchase a package of treatments and don't want to use your card I can send you an invoice for direct account payment too.

Do you offer refunds?

Due to the nature of the treatment, dogs not being able to talk to us and tell us how good they feel afterwards, and all the variables of age, breed, history, environment, and conditions. I can not provide any guarantees of results. Therefore, refunds are not provided.

But what I can assure you is that as a bare minimum your canine will have a wonderful and relaxing experience receiving a treatment from me.

What if my dog is super fidgety?

I'm used to dealing with stressed, fidgety, and painful dogs, and I'm sensitive to what your dog is trying to tell me. I never make a dog do anything it doesn't want to do. Instead I use a number of different methods to coax it to different positions where I am able to conduct the treatment.

Will I have to attend the appointment with my pet?

For your pets comfort and safety you are required to stay for the duration of the appointment with you pet.
